Slinger/Signaller course

Whether you would like to refresh your current skills or gain new ones, this course is the one for you.

Taking our Slinger/Signaller course will demonstrate competence in the safe preparation and direction of lifting operations.

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to follow the correct procedures for undertaking lifting operations clearly and safely.

Entry requirements:

Although you do not need any previous formal instruction to take this course, you must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course.

This course will teach the candidate how to

  • Establish the weight and dimensions of loads and communicate this information to the crane operator
  • Select appropriate lifting tackle and attach and detach it correctly and safely
  • Use clear and unambiguous signals to direct the actions of a crane moving loads of various weights and dimensions
  • Determine the serviceability of lifting accessories, and maintain and store them

Course Duration:

  • 2 Days – Novice Operator, Including Test
  • 1 Day – Semi-Experienced Operator, Plus Test
  • 1 Day – Experienced Operator (refresher training), Including Test

Assessment and exams:

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practicals. You will be assessed through theory and practical tests.


When you have successfully completed the course you will be awarded a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (on successful completion of the CPCS Technical Tests).
