360° Excavator Course

CPCS (A58 & A59) Training – Excavator 360° – Digger Courses & Tests

Whether you would like to refresh your current skills or gain new ones, this course is the one for you.

Taking our 360° Excavator course will demonstrate competence in the safe handling and maintenance of the machine, as well as instilling the confidence in both the candidate and their employer to operate safely on site.

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to operate and maintain a 360° Excavator safely.

  • A58: Excavator 360 degrees – Below 10 tonnes
  • A59: Excavator 360 degrees – Above 10 tonnes

The 360° Excavator training course category also has sub-categories; tracked or wheeled. As such, specific digger training course options are as follows:
A58: Tracked 360 Excavator Below 10 Tonnes
A59A: Tracked 360 Excavator Above 10 Tonnes (Please note – if you pass your test on a machine above ten tonnes you automatically qualify for below ten tonnes as well)
A59B: Wheeled 360 Excavator Above 10 Tonnes, often known as a ‘Rubber Duck’ (Please note if you pass your test on a machine above ten tonnes you automatically get below ten tonnes as well)

Those who take and pass the A59 course for digger training above 10 tonnes will be qualified to drive both machines, meaning this is the best course if you wish to drive both types of machine.

Entry Requirements:

Although you do not need any previous formal instruction to take this course, you must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course.

This course will teach the candidate how to:

  • Operate the excavator 360° tracked safely and productively
  • Fit and operate ancillary equipment
  • Site the machine safely and efficiently
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures
  • Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
  • Follow all necessary safety precautions
  • Interpret the information provided by level pegs and profiles
  • Be aware of the necessary routine adjustments and service procedures, and carry them out
  • Work to levels with the aid of laser equipment.

Course Duration:

  • 10 Days – Novice Operator, Including Test
  • 3 – 4 Days -Semi-Experienced Operator, Plus Test
  • 1 Day – Experienced Operator (refresher training), Plus Test

Assessment and exams:

You will be assessed through both theory and practical tests.


When you have successfully completed the course you will be awarded:

CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (on successful completion of the CPCS Technical Tests).
